Gamma-tester is a service that enables startups to connect with early adopters who love to test and try new web, mobile and social applications. Its mission is to build the first early adopter’s network and become the destination for startups to find beta users and testers.
Early adopters test brand new tech apps and unlock reward badges (cf: Foursquare) and help startups to get user attention and initial traction to find product/market fit.
One the most important part of the product development process is the beta test stage.
For so many entrepreneurs or small companies, it's never easy to find the right people to test their initial product, it's even more difficult to get the right feedback to be able to understand the problem.
There are a tons of services that provide you to test your product with a customer video's review... I never like it, I think it looks fake because the feedback is always too personal. I needed a tool that provide me large metrics, statistics about a specific user action.
The approach to build a tool like this was simple, to make sure the users test the features what we want them to test, we had to guide them without telling them how the product works (to make sure they understand by themselves).
To do that, I got my inspiration from a car GPS... instead it had to be a website GPS.
With my developer, we created a script to insert in any website code that enables any developer to track user clicks and understand how the customer will go to the point A to B.
On the user side, it was simple too. Every time a user connect to any website with the gamma tester technology inserted, a dashboard appeared and asked him to do a specific action (login, add to cart, share a picture...) or to go on a specific page.
Thanks to this technology, we knew in real time if the user were on the right track or if the user experience were broken somewhere.
Gamma tester is maybe the product I built that got the best traction.
Later we leveraged a community of users who were participating to the beta tests and were excited to help new startups to build great products.
To be honest, I never really focus on the design for this product, everything was about make a product reliable.
